| Sotomayor collects victory after rain |
Winter is slowly settling in on the west coast of California and this week, Watsonville could not avoid the rain. Ocean Speedway quickly became flooded and turn 1 turned into a pond of clay. Thankfully, the hard working crew managed to get the water out and fix up the track for race day.
All drivers looked at the track with concern. The track wasn't as consistent as it has been during the season. There were many dips, bumps, wet/dry spots and a very soggy infield.
Sotomayor lined up 3rd in his heat following the #56s of Nick Silva. The two drivers would battle for a couple laps, as Matt took to the inside line. The #63 would prevail and managed to get up front and gain a 4 car length lead on Silva in route to a heat win.
Matt would start 7th for the main event after yet another bad pill draw for the invert. The track began to settle in turns 1 and 2, becoming wet but smooth. Turns 3 and 4, however, were less than ideal. The #97 of Joe Willoughby took off during the first half of the races with a near straightaway lead over the rest of the field. Sotomayor quickly worked his way up to 2nd spot and began to run down Willoughby. A yellow flag flew which bunched up the field for an exciting finish.
The #97 Camaro jumped into the lead on the restart as Sotomayor followed suite. The next lap, Sotomayor dove down to the bottom in turn 1 and made it stick, coming out with the lead and never looked back. Sotomayor won the event, making win #5 for the year as he overcame the conditions of the track. This was the first race for the new pink paint scheme of X Motorsports, supporting Breast Cancer Awareness month.
The final points night is Saturday October 15, 2011 for the American Stock division.10-14-2011 11:41AM |

| Another top 5 for the books, at a price |
The #63 Pontiac Firebird managed to finish 5th place this week at Ocean Speedway, but at a cost.
Matt Sotomayor started 12th in the field after a win the week before. During the caution-less event, Sotomayor managed to pick his way all the way up to 2nd place before a yellow would finally fly on lap 19 of 20. After a second attempt at a green flag, coming to the checkered flag the #63 was spun out of turn 4 and became a road block for the rest of the field. Sotomayor's car was hit multiple times by a few cars who were flying towards the finish line and took a trip on the tow truck for this first time in his 4 years of racing.
The car is bent, but fixable. The team is now looking for nothing but wins for the remaining 3 races of the season.09-06-2011 12:02PM |

| Win #4! |
Matt Sotomayor was given the checkered flag first on August 12th, 2011 which raised his win total to 4 for the season, cutting into the point lead. The X Motorsports team has been enjoying a 3 week break from racing, looking over the car with a fine-tooth comb in order to finish out the remaining 4 events, including the 50 lap Tim Williamson Classic.
Check out the American Stocks as they return to the track on September 2nd, 2011 accompanied by the Ocean Modifieds, Dwarf Cars, 4-Bangers, Late Models and Micro 600s.08-28-2011 2:05PM |
